PLANNING. An application numbered 14/0735 has been received for 49 homes on farmland to the east of Willow Drive. Whilst this is fractionally better than the first application for 100 homes it is still far too many for the village and hopelessly too many when we consider that we already have a total of 128 dwellings approved and/or in build. I have written to Fylde Borough Council and asked for this application be refused. I believe the hearing will not be before January 2015.
I am also led to believe that Blackburn Diocese own a small parcel of land adjacent to North View Farm which they want to develop. At the time of writing I have not seen their detailed proposal so its difficult to comment other than to say that the village is topped up with housing and we absolutely don’t want anymore.
With regard to Richmond Avenue and the problems this development continues to cause I have visited the site often and spoken to Wainhomes reps with little result. A little while ago I contacted Mark Menzies our MP and he has now written to Mr Toghill the Managing Director of Wainhomes North West detailing our specific concerns. At the time of writing we are awaiting their response.
REFERENDUM. Fylde Borough Council continues to prepare for a smooth transition from our current “Leader & Cabinet” system to a “Committee” system which allows all councillors to debate every decision that Fylde Borough Council make. This new system will be introduced from election day which is 7th May 2015.
POLICE CRIME COMMISSIONER. The Police Crime Commissioner has attended the Town Hall and answered a wide range of questions. We were reassured that improvements in the handling of 101 calls has been made. This is particularly important as none of our local Police Stations are manned 24/7. Whilst we live in a relatively crime free area it was felt that Fylde Council Tax was subsidising the police service in more troublesome areas of Lancashire.
Lancashire County Council. LCC say they have been involved with talks about the future of Blackpool Airport. I understand there are 2 options. One is to sell the airport as a going concern and the other is to keep it open for private aircraft and part develop some of the land. Most of us would prefer the first option and time will tell.
LCC have offered £2M towards the reopening of the “Moss Road” (The back road in to St Annes) however this is dependent on Fylde Borough Council coming up with a similar amount. FBC are considering how this might be achieved.
Many of us are getting very fed up of the dreadful state of the Ballam Road adjacent to Peel Corner turn off. I have written again to LCC and asked them to treat this remedial work as a priority.
On a brighter note LCC have told Fylde that they have no intentions to close any library throughout Lancashire. This is not the first time they have said this and it is good news for those who don’t use kindles.
