Fylde Scam

Over the last couple of weeks we have had multiple reports of males cold calling at addresses across the Fylde, trying to sell residents what they describe as ‘fresh fish’. The males are extremely persuasive and demand up to £200 for several pieces of fish. Those targeted are predominately the elderly.

We would urge all residents not to engage with these males. Unfortunately, we do not have descriptions, only that they are driving a white Transit type van. Here are some tips to keep safe from scam cold callers:

– Don’t engage with the cold callers, inform you are not interested and close the door.
– Display ‘no cold caller’ stickers in window or door
– If genuine, ask for ID. Genuine trade and sales people will always have ID.
– If they attempt to enter property, call 999 immediately.
– Report to Police on 101.
– Never buy from cold callers, it is unlikely they will follow health and safety rules and regulations as legitimate businesses would.

We would appreciate if this message can be passed to family and friends who do not have access to In The Know. Enquiries are on-going to identify the males involved and all victims have been given reassurance and prevention advice.
