Elderly Targetted – Police Warning

The police have issued the following warning:

*** IMPORTANT ALERT ***

WATCH OUT FOR THIS MALE – HE HAS BEEN IN THE BLACKPOOL NORTH AREA TARGETING VULNERABLE AND ELDERLY PEOPLE

Information has been received in connection with two recent incidents:

Attempted Distraction Burglary – Lockerbie Avenue, Thornton-Cleveleys

On 17th March at 12pm, a male knocked on the door of a bungalow. The occupant, having been the victim of a previous burglary, put the chain on the door before opening it. The occupant asked the male what he wanted and he told her that he was an ‘insulation sales representative’. The occupant shut the door and did not allow the male access. The male opened the letterbox and repeatedly shouted ‘I’M FROM THE GOVERNMENT’. The occupant ignored him and eventually he left. Log 1118 of 18th March 2015

Whilst Police Officers were carrying out door-to-door enquiries in connection with the above, they spoke to another resident of the area who had had the same experience but allowed the male to enter her property. Details follow:

Distraction Burglary – Lockerbie Avenue, Thornton-Cleveleys

On 17th March between 3 and 4pm, a male knocked on the door of a bungalow. When the occupant opened the door, in order to gain entry, he said he was a ‘home insulation salesman’. The occupant allowed the male to enter and he asked for a cup of tea. Following this the male asked to use the toilet a number of times. During this period, it is believed that the male stole money from the occupant’s bag. Log 1188 of 19th March.

A description of the male follows:

White male, 5’4″ tall, short dark hair, slim build, dark jacket, dark trousers, small feet, black shoes, carrying a book and pen, possibly had an Irish accent.

Do you have any information which can help the Police find this male? Did you see anyone of this description in the area or do you have a CCTV camera which might have captured him on Lockerbie Avenue? If so, please contact the Police on 101 and quote the Log number shown above.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU REPORT ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD TO THE POLICE AND WATCH OUT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE VULNERABLE AND MIGHT BE EASILY TAKEN IN BY CRIMINAL
