The final phase of Wrea Green smart water butt trial. United utilities are in the village next Tuesday 19th March and Wednesday 20th March we would paricularly like to fit water butts in the following streets.

Dear Residents

As you may have heard, over the past few months, we’ve been busy installing Smart water butts in and around Wrea Green. These internet enabled tanks harvest water like a standard water butt but prior to storms and heavy periods of rain, are automatically programmed to slowly release water, thereby creating additional capacity.

It might not sound like alot but this extra capacity helps reduce the volume of water entering the system at any given time, and in turn helps reduce the likelihood of local roads and gardens from flooding.

Saving over 1,000,000 Litres of rainwater

With the water butts we’ve already installed on Station road, Beverley Close and Bryning Lane etc, we’ve collected over 4,250 litres per water butt in just three months – that’s 22x more than the standard 200L volume. Currently we’re on target to reduce the amount of water released into Wrea Green’s sewer system by more than 1 million litres a year. But we’d like to install even more.

Your chance to take part

You can have a Smart enabled water butt fitted at your home*, completely free of charge, at a time that suits you. The butts take up a minimal amount of space – just 58cm wide and 99cm tall- are formed from recycled material and once installed will require no upkeep other than you using them as you usually would to water the garden.

Installation is Free and easy

You just need to sign up and we do the rest. Once you’ve signed up, one of our team will come and survey the best place to site the SMART water butt and check that the location and downpipes are suitable. Once that’s confirmed, they’ll pop back to fit it – this generally takes around 15 minutes

You can sign up for a survey here https://uuhub.co.uk/wreagreen/ and provided your home is suitable (the majority are), we’ll arrange an installation date for your free SMART water butt.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and helping you to support Wrea Green even more.

And don’t just take our word for it:

“We were approached to take part in the Wrea Green Smart water butt pilot scheme and were very enthusiastic. Anything that might help minimise the flooding in the village seems a good idea. The installation was completed with no inconvenience to ourselves. I am not sure yet if it has made a big difference, but I have noticed that some regular flooding areas have not seemed quite as bad. I understand that data is being collected and analysed, so look forward to seeing the outcomes! “ Mary, Wrea Green

Come on, what’s stopping you?

Best

Katy

Katy Bevan Rainwater Management

Wastewater Services & Better Rivers

M: 07918375655

unitedutilities.com

The final phase of Wrea Green smart water butt trial.
