Your new food waste recycling collection service
From autumn 2026, Fylde is introducing a weekly food waste collection service
across the borough. This is in line with the UK Government’s new ‘Simpler
Recycling’ policy, which aims to improve recycling rates and lower greenhouse gas
emissions, not just in Fylde but across the UK.
what you will receive
As part of the new service, all residential properties will receive:
A 5-litre kitchen caddy for collecting food waste indoors
Kitchen caddy liners
A 23-litre kerbside caddy for presenting your food waste outside on collection
day (except multi-occupancy premises)
An instructional leaflet on how to use the service
What food can i recycle in my caddy?
Plate scrapings
Meat, fish and bones
Dairy
Bread and pastries
Tea and coffee grounds
Pasta, rice and beans
Fruit and vegetables
Leftover pet food
You will also be able to recycle your mouldy and out-of-date food using the new
food waste collection service.
why are we introducing weekly food waste collections?
Food waste has a big impact on the environment. When you recycle your food
waste, it’s used to generate natural forms of energy. Fylde is proud to support
residents to recycle efficiently – doing our bit for the environment and future
generations. By recycling food waste together, we can:
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Keep general waste bins cleaner and less full
Increase the amount of waste we recycle
when will the new service begin?
Weekly food waste collections will begin in phases from Autumn 2026. We’ll
provide each household with specific start dates and delivery information for your
caddies closer to the launch.
