Man tries to rob pensioner in Kirkham
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man tried to rob a pensioner in Kirkham.
Around 11am on Monday 20 June, a 73 year old man was waiting for a bus in the town centre when he was approached by another man who chatted to him for a short time.
During their conversation, the elderly gentleman told the man he was catching the bus home and would only be staying on the bus for one stop.
The 73 year old eventually caught his bus and got off at Dowbridge.
He began making his way down an alleyway to Myrtle Avenue when he was approached by the same man who had spoken to him at the bus stop.
The man grabbed the pensioner and said that he owed him money, however he managed to fend him off with his walking stick and the man ran off empty handed.
PC Paul Austin said: “This was a calculated attempt to rob the 73 year old man and we need to find the person responsible.
“Thankfully, the pensioner wasn’t physically hurt but he has been left shaken by what has happened.
“I would appeal to anybody who may have witnessed this incident or has any information about it to contact police.”
Anybody with any information is asked to contact police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
