Kirkham officers keen to engage with community despite temporary station closure
POLICE officers in Kirkham are reminding the public that they are still available to listen to residents’ concerns, despite the temporary closure of the town’s police station.
The Kirkham neighbourhood policing team has relocated to the council offices on Moor Street during the refurbishment of the Freckleton Street station. A front counter service for members of the public will be in operation in this temporary base, opposite the George pub, from 10am – 6pm every day, apart from Saturday when the office is closed.
Kirkham’s response officers, who answer emergency calls, will continue to patrol the town. They are temporarily based in Wesham.
Sgt Niamh O’Donoghue, Kirkham and Rural Fylde neighbourhood police team, said: “It is really important that, during the current refurbishment work, members of our community know that we are still present in the town and that they can still contact us if they have any concerns or issues that they want to raise.
“Our new base on Moor Street is only temporary but residents are more than welcome to pop in and see us – or to stop and speak to us while we are out on foot patrol.”
Sgt O’Donoghue added: “In addition to the presence of the neighbourhood police team, response officers will be on routine patrol in the town and will be dealing with emergency calls. We have done everything we can to ensure there is a little disruption as possible to the service we provide our community and we hope that they will continue to engage with us, using these alternative, but temporary, methods.”
It is hoped that the Freckleton Street station will reopen in March 2011.
