Help to Locate Rural crime

Lancashire Police is taking part in Rural Crime Week this October and encouraging the public to download the free what3words app, to help us #KnowExactlyWhere the issue is taking place.

From today we will be taking part in Rural Crime Week with emergency services, local authorities and organisations around the UK.

Emergency services and many dedicated wildlife policing teams will also be raising awareness about the free what3words app, given its effectiveness at helping them locate and respond to incidents in the countryside more efficiently.

what3words has given every 3 metre square in the world a unique identifier made of 3 words. It’s available as a free app and online map.

The what3words app is extremely useful for reporting the location of rural crimes such as fly-tipping, hare coursing, other forms of poaching, as well as illegal gatherings during the current lockdown restrictions . Often these crimes are carried out in rural areas where there may be no landmarks or road names to link them to but what3words helps us to get to exactly where we need to be easily.

As UK Police collectively raise awareness about rural crime this October, downloading what3words is a simple way the public can show their support and help keep our countryside as safe and enjoyable as possible. Whether you’re a farmer who wants to put a stop to fly-tipping on your land, or a walker who spots an illegal gathering,, what3words is the easiest way to communicate the precise location of a rural crime impacting your community.
